Ten seconds is the length this site's spacebar counter opens on by default, and it's not an arbitrary pick — it's the same window a lot of clicking and tapping tests settle on, which makes a score here comparable to scores from elsewhere in a way a 5 or 60-second number usually isn't.
Why ten seconds became the benchmark length
A window has to satisfy two competing needs to work as a shared benchmark: it needs to be short enough that an early lucky flurry doesn't define the whole result, and long enough that the result isn't purely a measure of who has the twitchiest single finger for a heartbeat. Five seconds fails the second test — it's almost entirely burst speed. Thirty seconds and sixty pass it but start failing the first — endurance and pacing start to dominate over raw speed. Ten seconds is roughly where those two pressures balance, which is most of why it's the number quoted as "the" spacebar or click test length across sites that never coordinated on it.
Where a burst starts turning into a rhythm

Look for a small sag through the middle seconds rather than either a flat line or a steady decline — that dip is the opening burst's recovery cost showing up, and it's normal at this specific length.
